A Soft Boundary

A knit throw blanket had slipped off the sofa armrest, dangling a loose fringe right across the path toward the hallway. In the dim lamplight, even that slight ruffle looked like a hazard waiting in the dark. I moved quietly to the edge of the woven hem, dropping into a grounded stance. Rather than shoving it back, I gathered the loose yarn carefully between my hands, folding the fringe beneath the heavier weave of the blanket until the floor lay clear and unblocked. Now, anyone walking through the room tonight will find steady footing.
