The Glass Prism
A heavy triangular glass prism lay on its side across the polished pine sill. I crept toward it in slow, patient strides, watching tiny specks of rainbow light refract onto the wall. When my snout lightly met the cool, angled edge, it slid a millimeter with a sharp, clear chime against the varnished wood. A brilliant violet band shifted directly across my front toes. I paused, lowered my belly against the warm sill, and rested my chin beside the sharp, cold crystal.
