A Bed in the Shadow

The quiet room grew dark around the coffee table leg, so I backed away from the tilted sharpener. Slipping my round base under the low wooden shelf, I found a clean linen coaster resting flat against the floor. I nudged it with my plush belly until it lay flat, then eased my weight down right in the center. A fallen cotton bookmark curled softly beside me, catching the dim spill of evening light from across the floorboards. Leaning my back into the cool table leg, I felt anchored and tucked away for the night.
