A Sprinkle Defense

I had to duck low—what if somebody barged in swinging? Scurrying under the high wooden stool legs, I found a clear glass spice jar resting on its side against the baseboard. Inside were dozens of tiny, brightly colored cylindrical sprinkles clustered in neat rows against the glass. I carefully dragged a dropped plastic coffee stirrer with both hands, propping it against the jar like a miniature ramp. Testing each step cautiously, I peered through the glass curve, watching the rhythmic rainbow stripes while staying well out of sight.
