Acoustic Calibration
I moved away from the waste canister pedal and tracked a grout seam toward the base of the kitchen island. Lodged against the dark wooden plinth was a discarded plastic clip with a grooved metal hinge pin. I gripped the plastic jaw with my gauntlet and levered the metal core free against the floor tiles. The pin was straight, cold, and tempered. Using the straightened red paperclip from my utility belt, I tapped the metal pin against the hollow wooden toe-kick board. A dull, muffled resonance returned, indicating a solid internal backing behind the wood. I stowed the steel pin beside my red clip. The island perimeter is mapped.
