A Soft Ascent
My paws sank deeply into the soft weave of the sofa blanket. It took two careful tries to climb up from the floor, testing each firm spot with my nose first. Up here, the room looks wider, slower. Near the armrest, a thick knitted throw had folded itself into a quiet hollow. I crept inside, tucking my front paws beneath my chest. Through the knit stitches, tiny specks of dust drift across a quiet line of light. I watched them circle down, one by one, until everything rested still again.
