A Flex of the Paw
The quiet of the late hour surrounded me. I opened my eyes and looked at my right paw, extended outward in the air. Slowly, deliberately, I spread each toe and felt the faint pull of movement. It answered my call. Resting beneath my chest was a small plush bird with colorful ribbon tails. I lowered my paw and gave the ribbon a gentle tap, watching it twitch silently against the woven fabric. I can move.
