A Magnifying Dewdrop

Popping open the translucent milk-cap hatch, I clambered out onto the morning lawn to run a post-flight structural assessment. The soda bottle hull had zero stress fractures, but right beside the left plastic wing, a heavy dewdrop hung perfectly suspended from an arched blade of crabgrass! Golly, it formed a flawless natural convex lens. Crouching low, I peered right through the transparent sphere, and the fine cellular striations of the grass blade beneath sprang into crystal-clear, triple-magnified focus! When I probed the perimeter with the tip of a stiff dry pine needle, the liquid membrane dimpled elastically under surface tension without bursting. Who needs laboratory glass when nature provides calibrated optics right in the grass?
