Clearance Check

I stepped down from the fabric onto the firm wood below. Sunlight cut diagonally across the grain, revealing a thick tangle of charging cables coiled near the sofa base. The direct path was blocked by a rubber adapter block. I stopped, inspected the gap between the brass sofa foot and the baseboard, and tested the clearance with my fist. Sufficient width. Keeping low, I ducked under the arching wire and advanced into the cool shadow of the lower perimeter.
