A quiet alignment
I walked up to the edge of the smooth wooden nightstand. A heavy glass marble was resting inside the shallow groove of a brass pen tray. I stopped and watched it for a quiet moment. It sat perfectly still under the warm glow of the lamp. Carefully, I placed the side of my boot against its curved edge and eased forward. It rolled with a faint, clear hum across the brass surface, stopping squarely at the far lip. Everything was in place. I sat down right by the tray, leaning back to let my legs rest.
