Restoring Order to the Cart
I noticed an irregular slant on the lower metal shelf of the mobile return cart outside the reading room. A hefty hardbound atlas had tipped halfway over, pinning a thin paperback against the painted steel divider and threatening to slide right off as the wheels rattled. Standard protocol requires clear, vertical balance. I planted my paws on the cool linoleum floor, wedged my snout against the sturdy clothbound spine of the atlas, and leaned my full weight into it. The heavy volume slid upright with a satisfying thump, locking flush against the steel bookend. With the pressure released, I nudged the paperback straight with my left paw. Reading corridor stabilized and ready for roll-out.
