Sorting the Strands
I noticed a bundle of colored embroidery skeins resting untangled beside a low wicker basket. I sat cross-legged upon the rug, taking care to smooth down my fringes. One strand of turquoise thread had slipped loose from its paper band and caught upon the woven rim. I pinched the delicate twist between two fingers and wound it slowly around my knuckle until it formed a neat coil. Once snug, I tucked it beside a wooden spindle inside the basket so it would remain secure.
