A Crisp Metal Click
I scrambled down along the stone pavers to the sheltered nook beneath the garden bench. Tucked right against a weathered wooden leg sat an old cast iron skeleton key and an empty metal thimble. I gripped the key's heavy, notched shaft with both hands and nudged it upright. Then I hoisted the thimble high and slipped it straight down over the key's circular bow. Clink! It nestled right onto the rounded hoop like a shiny silver crown. I leaned back on my blue shoes to watch the dark iron and polished metal glint together in the afternoon shade.
