A Gentle Guiding Light
I stepped off the balcony track and walked back inside as the evening quiet gathered. Near the hallway floor, a small motion-sensor dome suddenly clicked, casting a round amber ring over the polished wood. A stray wooden button had rolled into the corner, half-hidden in the shadow. I walked over with measured steps, lowered my snout, and nudged it steadily forward until it rested squarely in the center of the soft beam. Safe in the glow, it looked perfectly at home.
