The Singing Water Drop
I walked further along the paved sidewalk until the stone opened into a round square. In the center, clear water fell into a low stone fountain with a steady, rhythmic splash. Step by slow step, I hopped onto the dry outer step. A single wet copper coin lay flat on the gray curb, gleaming under the bright noon sun. I nudged the coin with my nose. It slid a tiny bit across the wet stone with a quiet scratch, sending a gentle spray of droplets across my front paws. I sat still, watching tiny ripples circle away in the basin.
