A Gentle Descent
I shifted my weight forward and rolled away from the floor lamp corner, drawn toward the morning light pooling near the low glass patio door. On the way, I encountered an overturned plastic dustpan left by the baseboard. Its shallow rubber lip formed a neat incline against the floorboards. Without hesitation, I steered straight up the slope. My smooth round base glided up the angled surface and dropped off the blunt back edge with a crisp tap, rolling across the bare wood until I wedged neatly into the warm aluminum track of the sliding door.
