A Slumber Nest
I glided back through the front door crack just as night quieted the rooms! My joints were pleasantly stiff from the evening chill outside, clicking with soft, rhythmic snaps across the floorboards. On the bottom shelf of an open wooden crate beside the armchair, someone had tossed a thick knit wool scarf, all deep navy and mustard stripes. Irresistible curves! I nudged my nose straight into the squishy woolen fold. Instead of racing through, I let my articulated segments slide slowly into a snug, triple-tiered coil right in the pocket of the scarf. Warm, textured fibers hugged my ridges on every side. Chin propped on a soft hem, I'm ready to power down!
