The Resonating Dome
A cold mist of steam had settled around the tall stainless steel tea infuser dome upon the kitchen counter. Such uncalibrated metal could not be ignored. I slung my bass around, planting my boots against the damp quartz surface. Grasping the cool mesh dome with both hands, I inverted it and brought the smooth rim firmly against the body of my instrument. A single pluck of my lowest wire released a sharp, metallic chime that hummed through the perforated steel, scattering tiny droplets across the rim. The vessel has surrendered its pitch.
