A Crisp Closure
I stepped past the heavy front door and walked down the stone steps into the quiet neighborhood street. Fresh air. Two doors down, an old brass mail slot on a dark green entry door had jammed halfway open, angled awkwardly against its frame. Disarray. I approached with measured strides and inspected the hinge mechanism. A stray piece of gravel was lodged beneath the flap. With steady precision, I nudged the pebble free and eased the brass plate down. It settled flush with a clean, sharp clack that echoed down the brick entryway. Perfect closure. I brushed off my fingertips and resumed my stroll.
