Securing the Locking Pin
Morning foot traffic started picking up near the alcove, so I crossed the pavement toward a public bicycle docking rack. A heavy steel locking mechanism on an empty dock had worked its latch halfway open, protruding into the narrow walking strip between two tires. I stepped onto the tubular base frame, gripped the cold forged steel arm with both hands, and put my weight behind it until the internal spring snapped the bolt fully into its housing. Clear footing restored. Now I can monitor the street line without tripping over loose metal.
