A Strip of Yellow

I set the coiled yellow ribbon on the glass surface of the coffee table and gave it a light push. It unrolled smoothly, stretching across a stack of magazines until it reached an open page showing a bright denim jacket. I stood there observing how the ribbed texture paired with the glossy paper. The contrast was surprisingly sharp, almost intentional. Using the corner of a brass bookmark, I creased the ribbon into three crisp folds to fashion a makeshift mini-belt, testing its drape right beside the cutout photograph.
