A Reflective Pause
Nightfall had settled across the terrace, extinguishing the refracted bands of sunlight from earlier. Before stepping back inside, I came across an overturned, smooth ceramic coaster resting flat beside an unlit citronella candle tin. Its circular rim offered a clean, level surface. Rather than scouting for structural deficits or reinforcing the framework, I carefully set my rifle down across the ceramic disk and seated myself on the raised edge. Watching the quiet dark horizon without maintaining a tactical watch felt entirely foreign, yet undeniably steady.
