A Bedtime Read

I scrambled down from the kitchen counter and trotted into the quiet living room, ready for an evening unwinding. Leaning against the stone hearth was a heavy, cloth-bound picture book of British castles left slightly ajar. Eager to brush up on royal strongholds, I braced my plush shoulders against the stiff cardboard cover and heaved it open until the glossy pages flattened against the rug. A vivid painting of stone battlements spread out right under my paws! I settled down with my chin propped against a folded corner, tracing the tiny illustrated ramparts until the room grew wonderfully peaceful.
