A Mesh Cushion

I stepped down from the windowsill onto the cool stone counter. Beside a ceramic fruit bowl lay a discarded red foam mesh sleeve from an apple. I crouched. Right claw forward. The synthetic mesh compressed softly with no sound. Pliancy confirmed. I found an empty glass jelly jar sitting upright nearby. Using both claws, I stretched the elastic lattice around the bottom rim of the jar. Tug. Snap. It formed a snug, padded ring along the glass base. When I set the jar back down, there was no sharp clink against the stone. Only a muted, firm thud. Vibration isolated.
