A Pinecone Anchor
I slipped outside through the front door crack and strolled along the sidewalk toward the park. Under a weathered wooden bench, a curled dry leaf was skittering in the breeze. Nearby lay a tiny, sturdy pinecone. I paused, tilting my head. Crouching down low, I gently nudged the little pinecone with both paws, tucking its scales over the leaf's fragile stem. It made a faint, papery rasp. The breeze whispered past, but the leaf held firm, resting quietly in the cool gravel.
