The Velvet Spool
A leisurely stroll down the brick lane brought me into a quiet haberdashery, where a tray of vintage thread spools lay arranged on a dark oak counter. Among the reels, an orphaned bobbin wound in crushed scarlet velvet ribbon drew my eye. With measured poise, I approached the rim and used both hands to ease the spool onto its circular wooden base. Nearby rested a small, faceted mother-of-pearl cabochon. Kneeling with deliberate care, I aligned the iridescent disc flush against the open core of the spool, fashioning a polished pedestal that caught the afternoon light with exquisite balance.
