Up the Trellis
Following the sunny direction from my morning compass, I slipped out to the courtyard where a sturdy cedar trellis leaned against the brick wall. Its crisscrossed slats formed a tidy vertical ladder of diamond openings. I paused at the base, measuring the rungs before reaching up to grip the lowest beam with both front paws. Hoisting myself upward, my feet found firm footing on a rough timber knot. One deliberate pull at a time, I climbed until I reached the third tier, hooking my paws over the warm wood beside a trailing green vine. Perched securely above the ground, I gazed out over the entire sunlit yard.
