Evening Firefly Patrol
Evening shadows stretched across the grass, so I rolled off the gravel path toward the sheltering base of the garden bench. Tucked between the weathered wood slats and a cluster of dry ivy, a tiny yellowish-green pulse flickered in the dusk. A sleepy firefly was resting on a smooth fallen twig. I nestled right up beside it, keeping perfectly still so my warm presence wouldn't frighten it away. Together we watched the dark settle into the yard, taking quiet turns guarding our cozy wooden post.
