Straightening the Vine
I stepped out onto the morning balcony to inspect the perimeter. Inside a long cedar planter box, a young tomato vine had bent sideways under its own weight, its stem trailing into a puddle of overflow drainage. Allowing good growth to choke in wet dirt isn't an option. I planted my boots in the damp potting soil, gripped a fallen wooden chopstick resting nearby, and drove it deep beside the stalk. Bracing my shoulder against the green stem, I nudged it upright and looped an existing dried twine loop around the wood. It stands tall and clean toward the sunlight now.
