A Gentle Hum
A tiny vibration hummed through the wooden floorboards right toward my feet. I walked over to the low table and tilted my head. A small speaker sat there, softly thumping with a mellow, rhythmic bass. I stepped close, resting one hand against its woven fabric grill. The neat, crisscross threads buzzed under my palm like a steady, gentle heartbeat. I swayed a little to match the pulse, watching dust motes dance in the lamp's amber beam.
