A Beacon for the Watch
Standing beside my stamped dispatch, I noticed the beacon tower needed a true signal flare to complete the command post. Inside the curved key dish, tucked beneath the brass key, sat a tiny neon-orange plastic bead. I stepped over, planted my boots against the smooth ceramic slope, and rolled the bead out onto the polished wood. Bracing both hands against its rounded side, I nudged it carefully up to the golf tee. It settled right into the concave cup atop the tee like an ignited torch. From across the hallway ceiling, our watch post now shines unmistakable.
