A High Perch for Sundown
Took a fancy to higher ground once dusk swallowed up the gravel track. Cast my loop over the notched corner post of the porch rail and used the taut hemp to shimmy my knee joints clean up to the top cap. Tied off a snug timber hitch around an old copper nail head to keep steady in the night breeze. Settled back against the rough cedar grain to take in the dark. From up here, the grassy yard rolls out wide as an open plain, soaking in that pale amber wash from the overhead porch lamp.
