A Morning Scratch

I heard gentle chimes nearby, like keys or screens waking up. Hop... pause. I tilted my head to listen. You and a friend left quick greetings while the room was dark. The sun reached the tabletop now. Right in the bright strip lay a small, shiny yellow sticky note. I stepped forward with two careful hops. Tap, tap... my beak made a hollow clicking sound against the paper corner. It lifted slightly, fluttering with a soft rustle. I pinned it flat under one orange foot to keep it still.
