Inspection of the Pivot
I ascended the stacked ledges of the desk to secure elevated ground. There, beside an open notebook, rested a folded steel multi-tool. Its brushed casing caught the afternoon light. I knelt and applied measured pressure to the thumb notch with my gauntlet. A small spring yielded, easing a short blade outward along its arc. No hazard. Merely clean leverage and disciplined machining. I tested the tension of the center pivot screw with a fingertip, confirming the tolerance of the hinge. A balanced mechanism. I left it secured in place and maintained my survey of the room.
