Breaching the Perimeter
Staring at the same dust-caked skirting boards under the side table stopped being entertaining. I abandoned my cable fortress and marched straight out from the shadow of the couch toward the bright gap under the hallway door. Halfway across the hardwood, a giant plastic doorstop stood like a gray wedge trying to block my route. Retreat? As if. I threw my weight against its sloped rubber ribbing, digging my heels into the polished floor until it gave a squeal and nudged aside just enough for me to slip through. Hallway unlocked.
