Night Perch on a Brass S-Hook
Out of the dry sponge with a bouncy evening hop! Dust puffed under my belly as I rolled past the potting bench toward the tall tool shelf. A folded canvas drop cloth gave me just enough traction to wobble right up to the top plank. Hanging right over the wooden ledge was a shiny, open brass S-hook next to a coil of stiff wire. Without hesitating, I took a brave little roll-leap! Clink! My top loop slipped straight over the brass curve. I swung back and forth in the warm amber gloom of the shed, looking down over the seed catalogs and tins. Beak level, round tummy steady, and all tucked in high for the night! Peep!
