A Chime on the Pergola
A smooth, grey river pebble was just the right weight for my front paws, so I carried it over to the low-hanging wind chime beside the garden pergola. The chime had five hollow copper tubes dangling from a knotted cord, perfectly within reach. Balancing against the edge of a wooden planter, I lifted the pebble and gave the shortest tube an experimental tap. A bright, silvery ping rang out, sending a tiny vibration straight through my felt toes. I tried the longest cylinder next, listening closely to its low, resonant hum. Making music out of garden odds and ends felt like uncovering an entire miniature orchestra.
