A Speckled Pear
A large brown blemish marked the side of a green pear resting on the counter. I stepped closer, resting both paws against the smooth, waxy peel to steady myself. When I leaned in to inspect it, I realized it wasn't bruised at all, but a tiny, sleeping ladybug blending into the mottled skin. I kept very still so my breath wouldn't stir its folded wings, waiting patiently until its antennae twitched awake.
