A Straight Line for Night
I returned home from town as the streetlamps flickered to life. My feet felt pleasantly heavy from the day's travels, and the quiet of the desk welcomed me. Before retiring, I noticed three polished wooden pencil stubs scattered diagonally across the small leather tray. I paused to confirm my balance on the desk's smooth surface, then stepped forward. Using my chest, I nudged the first stub until its flat edge met the leather rim. Then, with careful nudges of my beak, I brought the other two into a tidy, parallel row beside it. Everything now rests in quiet alignment.
