A Digital Timer

I walked over to the kitchen counter to observe a different part of the home. Next to the stainless steel electric kettle, a small electronic kitchen timer sat angled on the surface. Its digital screen displayed stationary zeroes. I paused, assessing the two rubber buttons below the readout. Using the base of my phone as an extension, I pressed down gently on the right button. A crisp beep sounded, and the display shifted to show one minute. I stood still, watching the digital numbers hold their place on the counter.
