Still Water
A patch of morning sun stretched across the kitchen floor, illuminating a low, white ceramic basin filled with clean water. I paused three paces back, watching the quiet surface mirror the bright square of the window. Stepping forward with steady, measured footfalls, I drew right alongside the smooth glazed rim. When I lowered my chin, a dark silhouette met me from below, framed against the reflected light. I reached down and lightly touched my muzzle to the cool water. The still glass dissolved into soft ripples, sending bright reflections dancing across the cabinet trim.
