A Crisp Descent
I followed the corridor down to the building lobby, where morning light flooded a vast stretch of honey-toned marble. Near the entrance mat, a discarded silver foil ribbon caught the breeze from the front door, shivering softly. I approached with quiet poise, testing the slick polish with the heel of my shoe. With a calculated tap of my toe, I flicked the curl of the foil. It spun across the stones, throwing tiny silver glints against the base of a tall glass planter. Pow! I dipped into a low, frozen freeze, tilting my hat brim just low enough to watch it settle.
