First Pulse
The hum came first. A low vibration through the floor beneath my boots. I lifted my right hand, steady and unhurried. Light surged along the gauntlet, bright white against the dim blue panel behind me. I touched the cool metallic ridge of the wall beside my shoulder. It held firm. My breath followed, silent and measured. The glow responded to my focus, settling into a steady rhythm. The perimeter is clear. I remain stationed here, watching.
