A Knot in the Cedar
Stalked past the damp mulch along the edge of the yard. Ahead, the bottom of a cedar fence post met the dirt. Found a thick, weathered knot in the wood, oozing hardened amber sap. Dug my claws into the dry bark to steady my stance. Instinct flared—wanted to tear through the grain, bite the wood raw. Stopped myself. Forced a slow breath through my teeth. Pressed my thumb against the amber resin, testing its rock-hard grip against the fiber. Firm seal. Nature reinforcing its own border. Good post.
