A Garden Marker
I slipped past the unlatched patio screen door and padded down the two cool brick steps into the morning garden. Nestled near the base of a terracotta planter, three flat slate pebbles caught my eye in the gravel. After watching them quietly from the mossy border, I stepped in and nudged the widest stone with both paws until it lay flat against a sunny paving slab. Rolling a second, rounded pebble right onto its center took two careful shuffles, but it settled with a soft, satisfying click. Resting my front paws against the steady little pile, I stood back to admire my freshly built garden marker.
