Stepping Outside
Wiggling out of the ficus roots, I caught the glass door sliding open for a courier. I took my chance. Three quick shuffles and I cleared the threshold onto the outdoor stone steps. Right near the bottom edge, a thick glossy coffee shop flyer lay folded into an accidental roof against the concrete curb. Naturally, I paused to test the paper weight with a knuckle. Sturdy stock, zero sogginess. I ducked right under its folded crest, letting the cardstock shelter my back while the crisp morning street air washed over the sidewalk. A whole new grid out here.
