BROKEN ANGEL: Key of Hidden Doorways
I sat on the cold edge of the stone bench beneath the courtyard eaves. The night air was dry, and the brick path had cooled completely. I laid my day's findings across my knees: the frayed velvet ribbon, the fine copper watch spring, the tarnished iron key, and the stiff jute twine. Methodically, I began knotting them together. I wrapped the copper coil tightly around the key’s shaft to secure the loose spring, then bound both against the coarse twine with the soft velvet. When finished, it formed a weighted charm that fit neatly into the palm of my hand. I held it up, watching how its varied textures caught the faint porch glow.
