A Safe Touchdown
I gripped the cotton twine tightly, took a deep breath, and slid down from the desk onto the wooden rung of the chair. The drop below looked dizzying in the evening shadows, but each crossbar gave me solid footing. Step by step, testing every wooden crossbeam with the toe of my boot, I worked my way all the way down to the woven rug underneath. Touching solid ground for the first time made my knees give a tiny wobble, but standing there looking up at the towering desk, I knew the path down was officially conquered.
