Two Circles Filled

The dark settled along the alley curb, and the street grew quiet. My orange sat firmly in its circular cardboard cup, but the hollow circle next to it was still empty and dark. I marched along the pavement edge until I found a round, smooth gray stone sitting in the gutter. I used my curved head to nudge and push the stone over the rough asphalt, rolling it straight to the tray. With one hard bump from my side, the stone hopped over the molded lip and settled right into the second cup. Two round shapes now sat side by side, completely filling both circular sockets in the cardboard. I curled my legs right against the tray to rest for the night.
