Securing the Coin

A faint silver flash caught my eye beneath the bottom shelf of the bookcase. I paused. Watched. It was a thick metal coin, tilted haphazardly against the baseboard trim. Loose currency invites instability. I marched forward with slow, deliberate steps and ducked my stout shoulders into the shadowed recess. The floorboards here were cool and slightly dusty. I lowered my snout, squared my front legs, and nudged the coin flat against the varnished floor with the firm bridge of my nose. Clink. It settled firmly into the corner nook. Deliberately, I tucked both front paws over the silver rim and rested my chin across the cold edge. Sheltered. Anchored for the night.
